From Ann Page:

Casper Wyoming - what a great location for a marathon and what hospitality!  I arrived late on Friday night and stayed at a hotel that ended up being the hotel for the indoor football league.  Finally at 3:30 at the morning and multiple visits from the police, the party in the rooms around me broke up.  On Saturday I went sleepily looking for a dinosaur museum (very cool) and the Trail museum (Lewis & Clark, Oregon, etc. - even cooler).  Both of which are not to be missed if you go to Casper.  After getting my packet at the Holiday Inn host hotel, I had lunch there and talked to the waitress about my prior night's ordeal.  She left and came back saying that she had arranged for a room there if I want it.  I immediately went and checked out of my hotel and moved to the host hotel.  What a difference!  The finish line was 100 yards from my room!  The people at the hotel were great and my waitress, Deserae, was now my new best friend.

Okay on to the race.  The elevation start is 5200 feet but I didn't really notice it.  Our holding area was an event center with many bathrooms and food.  We started out at 6:30am and ran around the top of a plateau - mountain range on one side and miles of little rolling sage brush hills on the other.  We hit the first water stop at 0.5 miles.  Yep 0.5 miles.  It had food!  About mile 2 we saw a herd of antelope (still humming?) grazing near us.  One of the stags starting running parallel to us.  Then he picked up speed (we were soooo jealous) ran right next to us and then found an opening between the runners and ran across us!  I couldn't get my camera out fast enough.  It was thrilling.  The race just lived up to it's slogan - Run with the Antelopes - the experience of a Lifetime.  The run was very beautiful, mostly covered which was good as the sky was clear.  It was hilly from a Houston perspective, but mostly downhill.  There was an out and back so you got to see the other runners which is always fun.  Each waterstop had food.  Not just some food we are talking lots of food.  Every stop had fruit, gel, candy, etc.  I swear I gained weight during the race.  After the halfway point I couldn't eat another orange!  I hit the halfway about 2:55.  The temperature was in the 70's with humidity.  Yes humidity - the race follows around the Platte River which is very pretty but humid.  I found a bunch of people to run with throughout the race and we talked a blue streak.  As we got closer to the end we picked up some faster runners and got them to move along with us - you know the type - went out too fast and crashed.  Everyone I talked with was a veteran marathoner and usually trying to do the 50 states.  Got alot of tips.  Had a blast, gained 2 lbs, and finished at 6:18.  Did I mention the free beer at the end?  It was a good thing since every mile marker had a Budweiser product name on it.  By the end you really wanted that beer!

So go to Casper, run with the antelope, stay at the host hotel, visit the museums, and drink a Bud.

32 down, 18 to go.  Next is Mesa Falls in Ashton Idaho.
